Special Kosa Silk Handloom Exhibition Opens at Bunkar Colony
Local master weavers showcase over twenty traditional Chhattisgarhi weaving patterns with direct weaver-to-consumer pricing at the cooperative complex.
A ten-day regional handloom exhibition has opened at the Bunkar Colony Weavers Cooperative Complex on the Raipur Road bypass in Kawardha. The exhibition aims to connect local consumers and visitors directly with master weavers, providing an intimate look into the labor-intensive heritage of Chhattisgarhi wild Kosa silk and natural cotton handlooms.
Exhibition Focus
Over thirty artisan families from Kawardha and adjoining blocks of Kabirdham district are participating in the showcase. Highlights include:
- Authentic Kosa Silk Sarees: Featuring rare vintage border motifs such as the *Kumbha* temple design and fine fish-scale borders (*Macha-Pati*).
- Vegetable & Mineral Dye Stoles: Modern adaptations using natural madder root, indigo, and marigold dyes that require zero harmful chemicals.
- Live Pit-Loom Demonstrations: Visitors can watch artisans setup the warp threads and operate the hand-shuttle, gaining a deeper appreciation for the multi-day craftsmanship behind each garment.
The exhibition is open to the public daily from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM until the end of the month, with all sales directly benefiting the resident weaving households.
