Kawardha Palace

Erected between 1936 and 1939 by Maharaja Dharamraj Singh, the Kawardha Palace stands as the architectural jewel of modern Kawardha. Spanning eleven acres of tranquil private grounds, this heritage estate blends European classical proportions with traditional Chhattisgarhi and Mughal stonework.

Design and Ambiance

The palace façade is constructed from locally quarried beige stone, punctuated by dramatic arched verandahs, balustrades, and high marble ceilings that keep the interior remarkably cool even in peak summer. The grand Darbar Hall features soaring ceilings, Persian carpets, historic armory displays, and authentic bronze filigree lighting from the early twentieth century.

The surrounding gardens are dotted with ancient neem, banyan, and flowering bougainvillea trees. In the early mornings and late afternoons, wild peacocks wander freely across the graveled carriage driveway, lending the grounds an unmistakable sense of timeless calm.
